Renate Reinsve and Elle Fanning Discuss New Films and Collaborative Experiences at NYFF
New York, NY – Actors Renate Reinsve and Elle Fanning shared insights into their recent and upcoming projects during interviews at the 61st New York Film Festival. Reinsve, starring in the upcoming film “Sentimental Value” releasing November 7, and Fanning, preparing for the A24 legal thriller “Discretion,” both highlighted unique directorial experiences and cherished on-screen partnerships. Their comments offer a glimpse into the evolving landscape of autonomous cinema and the collaborative spirit driving it.
Reinsve praised the vision of Kane Parsons, the youngest director A24 has worked with, during the filming of “The Backrooms.” The film is based on the viral YouTube horror series which has garnered nearly 200 million views as its 2022 debut. “He turned 20 during the shoot. He was very sure of what he wanted, and I love that he hasn’t really watched that many movies. His references are totally different, so it was very exciting to work with someone who had just these ideas [where I didn’t know the references],” Reinsve stated.
Fanning discussed her upcoming role alongside Nicole Kidman in “Discretion,” marking their third collaboration following Sofia Coppola’s ”The Beguiled” (2017) and the Apple TV+ show “Margo’s Got Money troubles.” “Oh my God, I love Nicole to death,” Fanning said. “I love her.we’ve worked three times now in more of an ensemble capacity, and we are friends, and we’ve gotten very close, but now we get to go toe to toe in this one [that was just announced]. It’s a real two-hander,this show.”
Stellan Skarsgård, also speaking with Indiewire, described his experience working with Lars von Trier, noting Trier’s focus on internal performance.”[He] sits right beside the camera, and he watches the detail in yoru performance. He’s after what happens inside the human being, no matter what you say, and that is what I am, too, doing in my acting. It’s not what you say,it’s how you say it.”
