Gaza Reconstruction Estimated at $70 Billion,UN Reports

Gaza City – Rebuilding gaza following the extensive damage from recent conflict will require at least $70 billion, according to a new United Nations assessment released today. the staggering figure underscores the immense scale of destruction and the long road to recovery facing the Palestinian territory.

The UN’s report details widespread devastation across Gaza, impacting critical infrastructure, housing, and essential services. The cost estimate encompasses not only the physical reconstruction of buildings and infrastructure but also the economic recovery needed to restore livelihoods and address the humanitarian crisis affecting over two million residents. The assessment highlights the urgent need for sustained international support to prevent further deterioration and facilitate a thorough rebuilding process.

The destruction has left approximately 88% of Gaza’s population in need of humanitarian assistance, with limited access to clean water, healthcare, and essential supplies. Over 360,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. Beyond housing, the report cites meaningful damage to hospitals, schools, and vital infrastructure like power grids and water networks.

“The scale of the challenge is immense,” stated a UN spokesperson. “Rebuilding Gaza is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and a future for the people who have endured so much.”

The $70 billion estimate is broken down into several key areas: $31.8 billion for reconstruction of housing, $19.8 billion for infrastructure,$8.5 billion for economic recovery, and $9.9 billion for social services. Securing funding and navigating the complex political landscape will be crucial to initiating and sustaining the rebuilding effort. International organizations and donor countries are currently evaluating the report’s findings and considering pledges of support.
