Francis Wong, Head of Product Marketing at Realme, confirmed the new policy, stating that select models will receive three major Android operating system updates and four years of security patches. This move aims to address growing consumer demand for sustained software support, a key factor in device longevity and security.
The initial list of devices covered by this policy includes:
- Realme 14 Pro+
- Realme 14 Pro
- Realme 14T
- Realme 15 Pro
- Realme 15
Enhanced Support for Mid-Range Consumers
This extended update commitment primarily targets Realme’s popular “Number” series, encompassing the Pro and T variants.Wong emphasized that this policy will be standard for all future devices released within these categories.”We want to provide a long-term and more stable experience for our number series users,” he stated.
While not yet matching Samsung’s four-year Android update and five-year security patch offering for its Galaxy A series,Realme’s new policy represents a substantial improvement and demonstrates a growing commitment to customer satisfaction. Samsung’s policy, launched in February 2022, set a new standard in the Android ecosystem.
GT and Entry-Level Series Remain Undefined
Currently, Realme has not announced whether the same extended software support will be extended to its flagship GT series or its more affordable entry-level smartphones. This leaves a question mark over the future of software updates for these segments of Realme’s product portfolio.
Furthermore, the frequency of security updates remains unclear. Realme has not specified whether updates will be delivered monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly, leaving users awaiting further clarification on this critical aspect of device security. Industry standards typically favor monthly security updates for optimal protection against emerging threats.
