Real Madrid’s Raúl Asencio Acquitted in Sexual Video Case
The legal clearance in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria arrives alongside an ongoing internal club disciplinary proceeding following a separate recent DUI conviction, according to reporting by the Associated Press.
Court Acquittal and Victim Forgiveness in Gran Canaria
The two women featured in the 2023 video at a beach club in Amadores formally forgave all four defendants at the start of the trial.
That formal forgiveness allowed prosecutors to withdraw the disclosure-of-secrets charges against all defendants, which stemmed from the alleged distribution of intimate images without permission. However, the child pornography charges against Ruiz, Rodríguez, and García remain active because one of the women was 16 years old at the time of the incident, according to court documents cited by AP. Under Spanish law, a victim’s forgiveness does not eliminate criminal liability for offenses involving minors. Asencio was not facing those specific child pornography charges.
Real Madrid Disciplinary Action and Managerial Stance
While the judicial process cleared Asencio of the video-sharing charges, Real Madrid maintains active internal scrutiny. Manager José Mourinho addressed the media on Thursday, confirming that the club opened a disciplinary proceeding against the 23-year-old player following a separate driving under the influence conviction last month, according to AP.
A Spanish court fined Asencio and suspended his license following the DUI incident. Mourinho noted that while the player remains sidelined for a couple of weeks with a muscle injury, his off-field conduct falls short of institutional expectations. “A Real Madrid player is a Real Madrid player 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 12 months a year,” Mourinho stated, as reported by AP. “Everything you do off the field is still about Real Madrid. It still damages the prestige of a club that is untouchable.”
Legal Compliance and Institutional Governance
Asencio has not featured for Real Madrid this season due to his ongoing muscle rehabilitation. Mourinho acknowledged the player’s training habits prior to the injury while emphasizing the weight of professional accountability. The disciplinary investigation by Real Madrid remains open as the club determines its final administrative response to the cumulative off-field incidents.
