A rodent was captured on video foraging for food on a diner’s plate at a food court in Lucky Plaza, Singapore, on Tuesday. The 16-second clip, initially shared on Facebook by user Sheryle O. Oro, shows the animal eating from a plate before being quickly apprehended by a food court employee using a cloth.
The video depicts a diner abruptly moving away from a table upon spotting the rodent, inadvertently kicking over a bag in the process. Another diner also reacted by quickly securing her belongings. A worker then approached the table and calmly caught the rodent with a cloth.
It remains unclear how the rodent accessed the food, whether it descended from above or climbed onto the table. The incident has prompted discussion among social media users, with some noting previous pest sightings in the mall, particularly near the basement entrance, according to comments on the Facebook post.
Several commenters observed the employee’s apparent experience in handling such situations, suggesting it may be a recurring issue. One user jokingly referred to the mall as “unlucky” despite its name.
The incident comes amid ongoing concerns about rat infestations in Singapore. In November of last year, vendors at ABC Brickworks Food Centre reported rat activity, including the presence of droppings. Housing estates in Hougang and Ang Mo Kio have also experienced similar problems in recent years.
MustShareNews reported reaching out to Lucky Plaza and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for comment, but a response has not yet been published.
