Rangers 2025-26: Key Additions, Departures, and Coaching Change

the NHL season is set to commence on October 7th,with the New York Rangers preparing for their upcoming campaign.

2024-25 Season Outlook: The Rangers finished the previous season with a record of 39 wins,36 losses,and 7 overtime losses,placing them fifth in the Metropolitan Division. Artemi Panarin was the team’s leading scorer with 37 goals, their top playmaker with 52 assists, and their overall points leader with 89 points.

key Acquisitions:

Vladislav Gavrikov (defenseman): The 29-year-old defenseman inked a seven-year deal on July 1st and is expected to promptly solidify a spot on the Rangers’ top defensive pairing. Gavrikov brings 135 points (29 goals, 106 assists) from 435 NHL games, including 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) in 82 games with the Los angeles Kings last season.
Taylor Raddysh (Forward): Raddysh, 27, agreed to a two-year contract on July 2nd.He is anticipated to add depth to the Rangers’ offence, having recorded 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) in 80 games for the Washington Capitals last season. Mike Sullivan (Head Coach): The 57-year-old bench boss was appointed on May 2nd, succeeding Peter Laviolette. Sullivan previously led the Pittsburgh Penguins to Stanley Cup victories in his first two seasons with the team before his departure on April 28th, following the Penguins’ third consecutive season missing the Stanley Cup qualifiers.

Notable Departures:

Chris Kreider (Forward): Kreider was traded to the Anaheim Ducks on June 12th in exchange for forward Carey Terrance and a third-round pick in the recent draft (Artyom Gonchar, defenseman). Last season, Kreider posted 30 points (22 goals, eight assists) in 68 games. Throughout his 13-season NHL career,all spent with the Rangers,he accumulated 582 points (326 goals,256 assists).
K’Andre Miller (Defenseman): Miller was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on July 1st for defenseman Scott Morrow, a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and a conditional first-round pick in either 2026 or 2027. miller recorded 132 points (36 goals, 96 assists) in 368 career games with the Rangers, including 27 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 74 games last season.
Zac Jones (Defenseman): Jones signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Buffalo Sabres on July 2nd. He registered 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) in 46 games for New York last season.
arthur Kaliyev (Forward): Similar to Jones,Kaliyev accepted a one-year contract on July 2nd,this time with the Ottawa Senators. The forward contributed four points (three goals, one assist) in 14 games after being acquired by the Rangers from the kings on January 6th. He did not play after March 11th due to an upper-body injury.
Calvin de Haan (Defenseman): De Haan, currently an unrestricted free agent, recorded three assists for the Rangers last season. He was acquired via trade from the Colorado Avalanche on March 1st.

prospects Poised for Opportunity:

Gabriel Perreault (Forward): The 20-year-old forward may have another chance to make an impact in the NHL after appearing in five games for the Rangers last season. Perreault, the 23rd overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft, amassed 48 points (16 goals, 32 assists) in 37 games for boston College during the 2024-25 season.
Brendan Brisson (Forward): Acquired in a trade with the Vegas golden Knights on March 6th, Brisson, 23, signed a one-year contract with the Rangers on July 7th. The forward has registered eight points (two goals, six assists) in 24 NHL games, all with Vegas, since being selected 29th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
