Honor Magic V5 Unfolds Global Presence with Lightweight Design and Premium Specs

Hong Kong Debut Marks International Release of Foldable Flagship

Honor has officially launched its highly anticipated Magic V5 foldable smartphone in the Hong Kong market, building on its earlier national debut. This release brings Honor’s advanced folding technology and premium features to a wider audience.

A Focus on Ultra-Lightweight and Durable Construction

The Honor Magic V5 distinguishes itself with a remarkably lightweight and slim profile. Available in Dawn Gold, Warm White, Silk Road Dunhuang Color, and Fleece Black, the Warm White variant is particularly notable, weighing just 217 grams and measuring a mere 8.8mm thick when folded. When unfolded, it achieves an impressive 4.1mm thinness, positioning it among the slimmest foldable devices available.

This slimness is attributed to Honor’s innovative “gold wire soft armor” material used in the Warm White model. Constructed from aerospace-grade fibers, the same material used in astronaut tether ropes, each fiber measures a minuscule 0.014mm in diameter. This material not only contributes to the phone’s lightness but also boasts exceptional toughness and a strength 2.5 times greater than steel, while being 61% lighter than paper.

The precision engineering extends to the device’s hinge mechanism. Honor utilizes its L4-level intelligent factory, employing an AI sorting program that ensures an assembly accuracy of 0.003mm for the small hinge components. This meticulous approach guarantees the hinge’s high toughness, strength (up to 2300MPa), and tensile strength, all within a compact form factor.

The Honor Magic V5 features a large internal display, a key element of its foldable design.

Flagship Performance Packed Inside

Under the hood, the Magic V5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, paired with the Adreno 830 image processing chip. It offers configurations of 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of internal storage, promising performance on par with conventional flagship smartphones.

The device boasts two high-quality displays: an outer 6.43-inch OLED screen with a 2376 x 1060 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, and an inner 7.95-inch foldable flexible OLED panel featuring a 2352 x 2172 resolution and a 120Hz update rate. Initial impressions suggest excellent display quality, with the hinge design minimizing crease visibility.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the versatile triple-camera system, comprising a 50-megapixel main lens, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. This setup is complemented by Honor’s AI Hawkeye photography system, aiming for impressive image capture capabilities.

Powering the device is a 5,820mAh battery, which, while slightly smaller than the national version’s 6,100mAh, is expected to provide ample all-day usage. It supports both 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.

Attractive Launch Offers for Early Adopters

The Honor Magic V5 is available in Hong Kong in a single configuration: 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, priced at HK$11,999. For a limited time, pre-orders placed until August 13th will include a comprehensive bundle of free services valued at over HK$10,000. This includes four complimentary filming services (valued at HK$1,200), a first-year screen protection plan (valued at HK$2,801), and a one-year service covering two internal screen replacements and two external screen/back cover replacements.

In terms of usability, demonstrations highlighted the device’s ability to run three applications simultaneously across its dual screens, seamless multi-device interconnection for quick photo transfers to other brands’ phones, and its reported water-resistance capabilities.

The durability and performance of the Honor Magic V5 will be further explored in an upcoming detailed review, following extensive testing in Japan.
