Quito Returns to Normalcy following Security Operation
quito, Ecuador – October 12th – Following a coordinated effort by the National Police and Armed Forces, the city of Quito has returned to normal operations, according to Interior Minister John Reimberg. Speaking from El Arbolito park on Sunday, Reimberg confirmed that security forces successfully maintained public order and prevented disruptions caused by planned protests.
Reimberg credited the effectiveness of the Security Block, stating,”The Police knew how to do their job,the Armed Forces did their job,and today we have the results: open roads in Quito, vehicles and Quito residents circulating freely.” He emphasized that the operation successfully countered attempts to destabilize the city.
The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) and other social groups had announced a “taking of Quito,” but participation in the capital city was reported as low by the Security Block. Early morning deployments of police and military personnel to strategic locations prioritized citizen safety, respect for human rights, and the free flow of traffic.
The situation across Quito and other areas of the country continues to be monitored from the Quito Unified Command post. Reimberg affirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to public safety, stating, “We are going to continue working; It is indeed the commitment we have as a national government. The Security Block does not rest. We continue to be articulated in all the provinces of the country, working for the safety of Ecuadorians.”
The Minister urged citizens to remain calm and have confidence in state institutions, reiterating that their security and well-being remain a top priority.
