Queensland Woodchipper Murderer Appeals Conviction
Bruce John Graham, who was convicted of the 2013 murder of Greg Baker in Queensland, has launched an appeal against his conviction. Graham, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Mr. Baker with a woodchipper, is challenging the verdict in the Queensland Court of Appeal.
The legal proceedings have also seen a separate challenge from Sharon Graham, the victim’s former partner. Sharon Graham was found guilty of arranging the murder and was also sentenced to life in prison. She is similarly pursuing an appeal against her conviction.
During the original trial, the court heard that Mr. Baker was killed at a property in Goomboorian, located in the Gympie region. Evidence presented to the jury detailed how Mr. Baker was attacked before being placed into a woodchipper. Prosecutors contended that Sharon Graham orchestrated the killing, while Bruce John Graham carried out the act.
In his appeal, Bruce John Graham has challenged the integrity of the original trial, including arguments regarding the admissibility of certain evidence and the conduct of the proceedings. Lawyers representing Sharon Graham have also put forward grounds for appeal, contesting the conviction that linked her to the planning of the homicide.
The Queensland Court of Appeal is now tasked with reviewing the submissions from both defendants. The court has yet to deliver a ruling on these applications, and the legal teams involved are awaiting a scheduled date for the appellate hearings.
