Qualcomm is reportedly preparing to launch a new high-end System-on-Chip (SoC) that will bridge the gap between its existing “8s” and “8 Elite” offerings. This unannounced chipset, identified by the model number SM8845, is anticipated to debut in 2025, possibly alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (SM8850) at the Snapdragon summit scheduled for late September.Sources suggest the SM8845 will deliver performance comparable to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. It is expected to feature an “all-big-core” CPU configuration, meaning it will omit efficient cores, and will utilize Qualcomm’s proprietary “Ryon” cores, similar to the current Snapdragon 8 Elite. A key differentiator for the SM8845 will be its adoption of the latest 3nm process technology, mirroring the advancements expected in the Snapdragon 8 elite 2, and it will inherit a suite of flagship features. Industry speculation points towards the possibility of this new SoC being named Snapdragon 8 Plus, aligning with Qualcomm’s naming conventions for its Windows SoC line, the Snapdragon X-Series.
Several Chinese smartphone manufacturers, including Oppo, OnePlus, and Vivo, are reportedly among the brands that will integrate this new high-end Qualcomm chipset into their devices. The introduction of the SM8845 coudl position it as a significant component for future “flagship Killer” smartphones.
