Quad Amputee Para-Athlete Arrested for Maryland Murder
A man who is a quadruple amputee has been arrested in connection with the death of another man in Charles County, Maryland. Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, is accused of fatally shooting Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf, during an argument in a vehicle on March 22.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a call near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road at approximately 10:25 p.m. After being flagged down by two individuals. These witnesses stated they were passengers in a car driven by Webber when he allegedly shot Wells, who was seated in the front passenger seat.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that Webber then asked the witnesses to facilitate him remove Wells’ body from the vehicle. When they refused and exited the car, Webber allegedly drove away with the body still inside. Approximately two hours later, a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall reported finding a body in their yard. Responding officers pronounced Wells dead at the scene.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Webber and subsequently located his vehicle in Charlottesville, Virginia. Webber was found at a nearby hospital seeking treatment for a medical issue, according to authorities. Following his release, he was arrested by the Albemarle County Police Department as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Charles County.
Webber is expected to be charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and related offenses. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has not released details regarding the weapon used or a potential motive.
Sources confirm Webber is a professional cornhole player in the American Cornhole League, having overcome the challenges of a quadruple amputation – the result of a blood infection as an infant – to compete at a championship level. He plays using the remaining portions of his arms to throw the bean bags.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and has asked anyone with information to contact Detective R. Johnson at 301-609-6453.
