Queensland Police Nab Four in Sunshine Coast Home Invasion
Alleged extortion plot involved hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Four men have been extradited from New South Wales to Queensland following their alleged involvement in a violent home invasion that occurred on the sunshine Coast. the incident has raised concerns about organized crime extending its reach across state lines.
Details of the Maroochydore Incident
On April 10th, a group of men reportedly forced their way into a unit complex on Sixth avenue in Maroochydore. they allegedly threatened a 27-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, demanding money with threats of violence. According to Detective Inspector Chris Toohey, the group was attempting to extort several hundred thousand dollars from the victims.
Reportedly, the offenders and victims knew each other. Police will allege the victims were threatened over a debt linked to a business operation and were to be held until the money was paid. “They were threatened with violence to make sure that they were able to get the money they wanted,”
said Detective Inspector Toohey.
Swift Action and Arrests
After the initial group of five men allegedly left the unit, two remained behind with the victims. Concerned family and friends alerted the police,who arrived and arrested two men,both aged 30,inside the unit. These men have been charged with deprivation of liberty and extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment.
Extradition and Further Investigation
On Thursday,NSW police executed search warrants across Sydney’s western suburbs,leading to the arrest and extradition of four men on a Queensland arrest warrant,facing the same charges.Detectives from the Sunshine Coast District Crime Group traveled to Sydney to assist with the extraditions.
Detective Inspector Toohey emphasized the exhaustive police work involved in this “complex investigation,”
highlighting the close cooperation between specialist detectives, regional police, and the NSW Police Force.
Detective Inspector Toohey affirmed the commitment to holding organized crime syndicates accountable, especially those from outside the state, stating, “We don’t want that type of behaviour or actions here in our city.”
