Russia Intensifies ukraine Attacks, Plunging Regions Into Darkness

KYIV, Ukraine – A massive wave of Russian drone and missile strikes overnight targeted Ukraine, causing widespread power outages across⁤ nine regions and leaving more then 20 people injured, including a child fatality, Ukrainian officials reported monday.‍ The attacks, described ‍by⁤ President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a “cynical and calculated attack,” appear to focus on crippling Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the ⁢winter heating season.

The assault, involving over 450 ⁣combat drones and⁢ 30 missiles, represents one of the⁢ most intense bombardments in months and signals ‌a potential shift in Russian strategy toward⁣ systematically degrading Ukraine’s⁢ ability ‌to ⁤provide essential services to its ⁣population. The ‌regions of Kyiv, Donetsk, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Odessa experienced important power disruptions, with Zaporizhzhia, Kirovograd, and Kherson also reporting considerable damage to civilian infrastructure.

President Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, stating via Telegram that Russia is ‌deliberately targeting civilian energy infrastructure. In response, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry implemented emergency ⁤power restrictions in seven regions,‌ prioritizing industrial companies in Zaporizhzhia and extending partial limitations to households in ⁢Kirovohrad.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported twelve ⁣injuries in the capital,‍ with eight ⁢requiring hospitalization, and confirmed several houses were damaged by falling debris. The attacks⁤ underscore the vulnerability of Ukraine’s‍ power grid as temperatures drop and demand for electricity increases.
