Meteor Turns Night into Day Over Puerto Rico
San Juan, Puerto Rico – A brilliant meteor streaked across the skies over Puerto Rico Wednesday night, illuminating the island and sparking widespread awe. The Caribbean Astronomy Society (SAC) confirmed the sighting, which occurred at 10:33 p.m. and was visible from numerous locations across the territory.
The space rock,estimated to be between 1 and 2 meters in diameter,disintegrated as it entered Earth’s atmosphere,creating a spectacular display of green,blue,and orange hues. According to the SAC, thes colors suggest the meteor contained metals commonly found in such objects, including magnesium, iron, and sodium.
“it was seen looking towards the south, illuminating the entire sky for a few moments,” explained Eddie Irizarry, vice president of the SAC.
The SAC believes any surviving fragments likely fell into the sea south of Red Cape, though no impact has been confirmed.this meteor has been classified as sporadic, meaning it wasn’t linked to a specific meteor shower. Though, the organization notes that observers may see similar bright meteors in October and November due to the Taurids, a meteor shower known for its intensity.
The SAC encourages astronomy enthusiasts to continue watching the skies for potential repeat sightings. meteors are remnants from comets and asteroids,offering a glimpse into the early solar system and providing scientists with valuable facts about the composition of space. While most burn up harmlessly in the atmosphere, larger ones like this one can create a breathtaking celestial event.
