Puerto rico Holds Firm at No. 7 in World Baseball Rankings
SAN JUAN, puerto Rico - Puerto Rico continues too hold the seventh position in the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) world rankings, as of the latest update released this Wednesday. The team currently has 3,536 points, positioning them closely behind Mexico at No. 6 with 3,605 points.
The WBSC ranking reflects results from recent continental championships, but does not yet include outcomes from the WBSC Americas qualifying tournaments for the U-15 and U-23 Baseball World Cups. Puerto Rico secured a silver medal in the U-23 tournament.
The rankings are crucial as the top 12 countries by the end of 2025 will automatically qualify for the 2027 Premier12 tournament – a premier international baseball event that awards ample ranking points.
“This is a clear example of the results of our national program. Staying seventh in the world demonstrates the work of all our teams and categories. In addition, it puts us in a very solid position heading into the Premier12 of 2027, a tournament in which Puerto Rico practically has its classification guaranteed,” stated Dr.José Daniel Quiles, president of the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation.
Puerto Rico also trails Venezuela, currently ranked fifth with 3,612 points, by 76 points.
