A person close to a married couple has been taken into custody in connection with the February 21st discovery of two bodies in Chignahuapan, Puebla, a region bordering Tlaxcala, authorities confirmed on February 24th.

The arrest occurred during a raid on a residence in Puebla’s Villa Universitaria neighborhood, where investigators seized computer equipment, according to reports. The individual, whose identity has not been released, is now in the custody of the Tlaxcala State Attorney General’s Office for legal proceedings.

The victims, who arrived in the center of Tlaxcala by vehicle at 9:56 a.m. On February 20th, were last traced via their cell phones at 6:30 p.m. That same day. They had been following a white vehicle with Tlaxcala license plates, authorities stated.

The Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Tlaxcala, led by Ernestina Carro Roldán, is leading the investigation. The agency’s mission, as stated on its website, is to guarantee access to justice through professional and scientific investigation, seeking truth and reparation for victims of crime, and exercising criminal action with autonomy and strict adherence to legal principles.

In a separate case from 2019, a judge in Tlaxcala ordered the pre-trial detention of a Puebla state public prosecutor and a Federal Investigation Police officer, both accused in the femicide of a female agent of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). The two were accused of shooting and killing the woman, with whom the police officer had been having an extramarital affair.

The Tlaxcala Attorney General’s Office has not released further details regarding the February 24th arrest, and the investigation remains ongoing.
