Proton Mail Launches Redesigned App with Performance Improvements, Offline Limitations
Geneva, Switzerland – Proton Mail has released a major redesign of its iOS and Android applications, bringing a refreshed user interface and performance enhancements. The update, currently rolling out to users, focuses on speed improvements-particularly noticeable on iOS-while introducing a dependency on server synchronization for many settings adjustments.
The redesigned Proton Mail app aims to provide a more streamlined and modern email experience for its privacy-focused user base. While the new version boasts faster overall operation, users have reported slower loading times within the Settings menu, a result of the app’s reliance on syncing with the web mail client. Functionality within Settings is now limited in offline mode, with only app customizations remaining accessible without an internet connection. The update, version 7.0.10, is currently being distributed via the apple App Store and Google Play Store, and is also available for sideloading from ProtonMail‘s GitHub releases page.
Proton Mail’s redesign addresses longstanding user requests for a more responsive mobile experience. The company has prioritized speed and usability, though the trade-off involves increased reliance on a stable internet connection for full feature access. This shift impacts users who frequently operate in areas with limited or no connectivity, as core settings adjustments will require online access.
The latest Proton Mail app is available for download from the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store. Android users can also access the update via GitHub releases.Notably, the current version does not include any artificial intelligence features.
