New Delhi – Project Liberty Institute (PLI) will be a central participant at the India AI Impact Summit next week, advocating for a human-centered approach to artificial intelligence and digital governance, according to a press release issued February 13, 2026. The summit, hosted by the Government of India, aims to foster international cooperation on ensuring AI benefits the public.

PLI President Tomicah Tillemann will lead a delegation engaging in the main summit and three invitation-only convenings focused on building support for a “pro-human AI stack,” responsible tech governance, digital public infrastructure, and democratic accountability. “Project Liberty Institute wants to ensure AI advances human flourishing and human agency,” Tillemann stated. “The India AI Impact Summit is an opportunity to forge coalitions capable of delivering that goal. No one country or company should dictate the future of AI alone. People deserve a seat at the table as we work to build a new generation of digital infrastructure that enhances human dignity and opportunity.”

A key event for PLI will be a main-stage session titled “Building Trust: Digital Infrastructure Fit for the AI Era,” scheduled for February 16. Co-organized with the Stanford Institute on Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) and the Global Solutions Initiative, the session will feature a panel including Tillemann, Sarah Nicole, Policy and Research Manager at PLI, Dr. Supheakmungkol Sarin of AI Safety Asia, Dr. Arvind Gupta of the Digital India Foundation, Robert Opp, Chief Digital Officer of the United Nations Development Programme, and Vidisha Mishra, Director of Global Outreach and Policy at the Global Solutions Initiative. The discussion will center on how AI is reshaping sovereignty and how governments can align AI innovation with public interests.

Beyond the main summit, PLI is hosting or co-hosting three invitation-only convenings. On February 17, in partnership with Chatham House, the Global Solutions Initiative, and Aapti Institute, PLI will convene a session on “Collective AI Governance: Multilateral Approaches for a Fragmented World,” featuring Anna Tumadóttir, CEO of Creative Commons, Joseph Carroll, Head of AI Unit at the UK Foreign Office, and PeiChin Tay, Senior Policy Advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.

On February 18, PLI will co-host a session with IT for Change and the Australian Government of Foreign Affairs and Trade, focusing on “Steering DPI & AI Innovation Towards Public Value Maximisation: The Role of Governments in Safeguarding Data Agency.” Participants will include senior officials from the Office of the President of Kenya, the State Secretary at the Austrian Federal Chancellery, and the Swiss Special Envoy AI.

Finally, on February 20, PLI will collaborate with the Social Web Foundation, Modal Foundation, Public AI, and the Observer Research Foundation to launch a workshop series on “Building a New Social Web: Protocols, People and the Promise of a Democratized AI-Data Economy.” Lead discussants will include Joshua Tan, Co-Founder of Public AI, Ivan Sigal, Co-Founder of Modal Foundation and Interim Executive Director of Free Our Feeds, and Mallory Knodel, Executive Director of the Social Web Foundation.

PLI’s participation at the India AI Impact Summit underscores its commitment to people-centered AI governance and coalition-building, according to the organization. Registration for the summit is being handled through the India AI Impact Summit website, with separate invitations required for the side convenings.
