Progressive Insurance Settles Florida Debt Collection Lawsuit for $500,000
TALLAHASSEE, FL – Progressive Direct Insurance Co. has agreed to a $500,000 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging violations of Florida’s debt collection laws.The suit centered on claims that Progressive sent debt collection emails to Florida residents during prohibited late-night hours.
The settlement will benefit Florida residents who received debt collection emails from Progressive between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. local time from July 2, 2022, through May 16, 2025.Plaintiffs alleged these emails violated the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act (FCCPA).
Progressive, a major insurance provider offering a range of coverage including auto, motorcycle, and home insurance, has not admitted any wrongdoing as part of the agreement. However, the company opted to settle the allegations to avoid further litigation.
Class members are eligible to receive a cash payment, distributed proportionally based on the number of valid claims submitted. While specific payment amounts are currently unavailable,the total settlement fund is $500,000.
