Progressive Insurance Settles Florida Debt Collection Lawsuit for $500,000

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Progressive Direct Insurance Co. ‍has agreed to a $500,000 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging violations of Florida’s debt⁤ collection laws.The suit centered on claims that Progressive sent debt‌ collection emails to Florida residents during prohibited ⁣late-night hours.

The settlement will benefit Florida residents who received debt collection emails​ from Progressive ‌between 9 p.m. and 8⁢ a.m. local time from July 2, 2022, through May 16, 2025.Plaintiffs alleged these emails violated the Florida Consumer Collection‍ Practices Act (FCCPA).

Progressive, a major insurance provider offering⁣ a range of coverage‌ including auto, ​motorcycle, and home insurance, has not admitted⁣ any wrongdoing as part of the agreement. However, ‌the company opted to settle the allegations to avoid‍ further litigation.

Class members are eligible to receive a cash payment, distributed proportionally based on the number of valid claims submitted. While specific payment amounts are currently unavailable,the total settlement fund is $500,000. ​
