Bali, Indonesia – probolinggo District, East Java, presented its cultural heritage on the international stage at the 2025 Chandi Forum, held September 3-5 at Sanur Beach, bali. The forum, focused on Culture, Heritage, Arts, Narratives, Diplomacy, and Innovations, drew delegates from over 30 countries, including Probolinggo District Head Mohammad Haris.
Haris emphasized the importance of local culture, stating, “Local culture is Indonesia’s face to the world. The values of our villages can inspire globally.” He showcased Probolinggo’s traditions, specifically the Yadnya Kasada ceremony and rituals of the Tengger community residing on the slopes of Mount Bromo.
The district’s participation aimed to promote its cultural wealth, foster partnerships in tourism and the creative economy, and position culture as a “strategic asset to solve global challenges,” according to Haris.Probolinggo boasts a rich cultural landscape encompassing conventional arts, unique cuisine, and the globally recognized natural attraction of Mount Bromo.The Chandi Forum 2025 concluded with a collective commitment to integrate culture into enduring development,strengthen cultural diplomacy,and utilize digital technologies for effective heritage preservation. Participants affirmed that preserving, promoting, and adapting local cultures is crucial for addressing modern challenges in a changing world. Probolinggo seeks to leverage the forum’s outcomes to join global cultural networks, attract investment, and reinforce Indonesia’s national identity.
