Prince Andrew Arrested: Misconduct in Public Office & Epstein Link

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the Duke of York and brother of King Charles III, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Thames Valley Police confirmed. The arrest, which occurred on his 66th birthday, is connected to allegations he shared sensitive information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.

Police are conducting searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk, including the Sandringham Estate where Mountbatten-Windsor was taken into custody. Six unmarked police vehicles were observed arriving at Wood Farm, his residence on the estate, earlier Thursday, according to Reuters. Authorities have not specified the nature of the sensitive information allegedly shared with Epstein.

King Charles responded to the arrest with a statement released Thursday afternoon, saying, “The law must take its course.” The Prince and Princess of Wales have expressed their support for the King’s statement, according to reports. The monarch as well stated he had “deepest concern” over his brother’s arrest and emphasized the importance of a “full, fair and proper process” for investigation by the appropriate authorities.

The investigation was prompted by the recent release of documents from the U.S. Department of Justice related to the Epstein case, often referred to as the “Epstein files.” These files reportedly contain emails suggesting Mountbatten-Windsor shared confidential trade reports with Epstein. Thames Valley Police confirmed they were assessing the claims after the documents were made public earlier this month.

Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing in connection with his relationship with Epstein. He was previously removed from royal duties in 2019 following accusations of sexual assault, which he also denied. The current arrest focuses on potential breaches of public office related to his former role as a special representative for UK trade and investment.

The arrest comes as authorities continue to examine the extent of Epstein’s network and the involvement of prominent figures. Mountbatten-Windsor remains in police custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Police have not indicated when further information will be released.
