President Zardari Secures chinese investment in Key Sectors During Shanghai Visit
SHANGHAI, September 17, 2025 – President Asif Ali zardari concluded a series of meetings in Shanghai, China, focused on strengthening Pakistan-China economic ties and securing investment in crucial sectors including new energy vehicles, waste management, agriculture, and technology.
The President met with Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Automobile Company Ltd, and pledged government support for the development of new energy vehicles (NEVs), electric buses, and the local production of related components. Discussions centered on potential joint ventures encompassing electric buses, mini trucks, green energy solutions, and the establishment of charging infrastructure. President Zardari also highlighted opportunities for collaboration between Pakistani and Chinese companies in manufacturing,mineral processing,and energy storage technologies. Mr. Yin provided an overview of Chery Auto’s global operations and its commitment to innovation.
Further bolstering Pakistan’s infrastructure development, President Zardari held talks with Zhu Xiaoping, CEO and Co-founder of SUS Environment Technology, a leading Chinese waste management firm. The conversation focused on addressing Pakistan’s urgent need for modern waste management systems, particularly within the Sindh province. President Zardari expressed a warm welcome to potential cooperation, and Mr. Zhu detailed his company’s expertise in advanced waste treatment and indicated a willingness to invest in Pakistan’s environmental sector.
A meeting with Chen jining, Secretary of the Communist Party of china (CPC), reaffirmed the enduring strength of Pakistan-China relations. president Zardari emphasized the resilience of the partnership, stating that attempts to disrupt the bond would be unsuccessful. Mr. Chen briefed the President on Shanghai’s economic evolution, noting its transition from a manufacturing center to a leading services hub, driven by substantial investments in healthcare and education, resulting in improved life expectancy for its citizens.
The leaders also explored avenues for industrial collaboration within Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones and the Gwadar Free Zone,with a particular focus on technology,information technology,artificial intelligence,and innovation.
During his visit, President Zardari witnessed the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) designed to advance Pakistan’s initiatives in agriculture, environmental protection, and mass transit systems. These agreements signify a concrete step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation and fostering enduring development within Pakistan.
