MANILA, PHILIPPINES - President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced plans to launch a separate examination into alleged irregularities in government flood control projects, even as the Senate and House of Representatives conduct thier own inquiries. The President affirmed his commitment to uncovering wrongdoing, stating, ”The truth has to come out.”
Marcos revealed that an executive order is currently being drafted to establish an independent commission tasked with auditing all flood control projects and pursuing charges against those responsible for any anomalous deals. He emphasized that the Palace investigation will proceed alongside the congressional probes, respecting the lawmakers’ prerogatives, and assured that no one, including political allies, will be exempt from scrutiny.
“We will have the independent commission. We will organize it. We will support it fully. And all the other organs of government, I’m sure will play their part in finding the truth to all of these – all of these anomalies,” Marcos said during his latest ‘BBM Podcast’ appearance.
The move signals a heightened focus on accountability in infrastructure spending, a critical issue for a nation frequently battered by typhoons and monsoon rains. Flood control projects are vital for protecting communities and mitigating economic damage, making transparency and proper implementation paramount. The President’s directive aims to ensure a thorough review and address potential corruption within these initiatives.
