Premier Inn Bambury: Silverstone GP Hotel Review & Travel Guide

by Emma Walker – News Editor

The Holiday Inn Express in Banbury, a favored lodging for attendees of the British Grand Prix, has undergone a change in management, now operating as a Premier Inn. The shift, noted on February 22, 2026, comes as hotel costs surrounding the Silverstone Circuit continue to rise, according to a report published earlier this month.

The Banbury location, approximately a 30-minute drive from the Silverstone Circuit, had been a preferred choice due to relatively manageable traffic conditions. The transition from Holiday Inn Express to Premier Inn signifies a broader trend of evolving accommodations for motorsport enthusiasts, particularly as demand surges during the annual Formula 1 event.

The author of the report, who has covered international racing since 1990, observed a reduction in amenities at the newly rebranded Premier Inn. While automated check-in remains standard, with staff assistance available when needed, services such as complimentary instant coffee have been discontinued. The cost of a single night’s stay was reported at £85, equivalent to approximately ¥17,000 at the time of the visit.

The British Grand Prix, first held in 1926, holds a significant place in motorsport history. It was the inaugural race of the F1 World Championship in 1950 and remains one of the most traditional events on the Formula 1 calendar. Silverstone Circuit, the permanent home of the British Grand Prix, hosted the race for the 80th time in 2025.

The 2025 British Grand Prix saw Lando Norris of McLaren take first place, completing the race in 1:37:15.735. Oscar Piastri, also driving for McLaren-Mercedes, finished second, 6.812 seconds behind. Nico Hulkenberg of Kick Sauber-Ferrari secured third place, finishing 34.742 seconds after Norris. Max Verstappen, driving for Red Bull-Honda, finished fourth.

Silverstone Circuit, originally built as an RAF airfield in 1942, was first used for a motor race in 1947. The circuit’s layout is known for its high-speed corners and challenging demands on drivers and machines. The fastest lap time ever recorded at Silverstone was 1:27.097, set by Max Verstappen in 2020.

The schedule for the 2025 British Grand Prix included practice sessions on July 4th and 5th, qualifying on July 5th, and the race itself on July 6th. The event continues to draw significant international attention and remains a key fixture in the Formula 1 season.
