PreCheck & Global Entry: Limited Impact on Detroit Travel?

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Appointments for expedited customs processing through Global Entry at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) are currently available with a wait time of zero days, according to Global EntryAlerts.com. The rapid availability, updated as of February 21, 2026, contrasts with reported booking challenges at other enrollment centers nationwide.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program, which includes Global Entry, SENTRI, NEXUS, and FAST, allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to bypass traditional customs lines upon arrival in the United States. Detroit’s Global Entry enrollment center is located in the Evans Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, specifically at 600 Rogell Drive.

While securing appointments at many Global Entry locations can require months of advance planning, Detroit Metro Airport is experiencing a surplus of availability. According to TTP Alerts, new interview slots open daily due to cancellations and reschedulings. Applicants are advised to regularly check the CBP website for updated availability or utilize alert services to be notified of newly available appointments.

The Global Entry application process begins with an online application through the DHS Trusted Traveler Program website, requiring a $120 fee for a five-year membership. Following conditional approval, which can take between one and eight weeks depending on application volume and accuracy of submitted information, applicants schedule an in-person interview. The Detroit Metro Airport location is at the Detroit North Terminal, 601 Rogell Dr.

Despite the ease of securing an interview in Detroit, some travelers report interviews lasting as little as ten minutes, primarily focusing on travel plans. Applicants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time.

The CBP has not issued a statement regarding the unusually high availability of appointments at the Detroit location. The agency continues to process applications and conduct interviews nationwide, with wait times varying significantly by location.
