Prague Waterworks Announces Water Disruption for Northern Districts
Tens of thousands of residents across northern Prague will face a major disruption to their drinking water supply starting Wednesday night due to a critical failure on a primary supply line.
Emergency Repair on the DN 600 Water Main in Prague 8
The emergency shutdown affects a DN 600 water main located at the intersection of Ďáblická and Žernosecké streets in Prague 8, according to Tomáš Mrázek, spokesperson for Prague Waterworks and Sewerage (Pražské vodovody a kanalizace, or PVK). The damaged pipeline serves as a main feed from nearby reservoirs, supplying tens of thousands of customers in the northern districts. PVK supplies drinking water to approximately 1,3 milionu residents of the capital and 250,000 people in the Central Bohemian Region.
PVK operates the network under a lease agreement with the municipal firm Prague Waterworks Company (Pražská vodohospodářská společnost, or PVS), with Veolia holding a majority stake in PVK.
Shutdown Affects Ďáblice, Prosek and Krocínka Areas
The full shutdown will directly affect the Ďáblice housing estate, the Prosek housing estate south of Liberecká street, and the Krocínka area. Meanwhile, the Prosek polyclinic will remain unaffected by the complete outage, Mrázek noted. Certain sections, including parts of the Ďáblice housing estate and North Ďáblice, will experience significantly reduced water pressure rather than a complete dry spell, with exact pressure levels fluctuating based on real-time consumption.

Pipeline Repairs Start October 21 with Emergency Water Supply
The pipeline shutdown will commence on Wednesday, October 21, at approximately 10:00 PM, with repairs scheduled to wrap up by Thursday afternoon. Throughout the duration of the repairs, PVK plans to maintain an emergency drinking water supply using water tankers and bottled water placed in distribution containers.
An additional, smaller planned water outage is already scheduled for November 3 nearby, affecting the area between Liberecká and Střelničná streets from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This upcoming work follows earlier major infrastructure disruptions in Prague, such as a major hot water pipeline failure at the intersection of Michelská and Ohradní streets in Prague 4 at the start of the summer holidays, which left numerous households without service for up to two weeks.
