Prabowo Subianto Signals Openness too Review of Public‍ Demands Following Protests

Hambalang, ⁤West‌ java – ⁢Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has ‌responded to a ⁣list of 17+8 demands presented by ⁤demonstrators, indicating ⁤a willingness to discuss and perhaps act upon some of the ⁢concerns raised. The demands stem‌ from recent public demonstrations and cover a range of issues, including calls for an independent investigation into specific cases and a re-evaluation of the military’s role in civil security. The acknowledgment comes⁤ at a pivotal moment as the new governance seeks to establish a dialog⁢ with the public and address grievances. The demands⁣ reflect widespread concerns about issues ranging from human rights to security sector reform, and Subianto’s response suggests a potential shift towards ‍greater transparency and accountability. The outcome of these discussions⁣ could substantially impact ⁢public trust and ⁢shape the government’s policy agenda ‌in the coming months.

Subianto stated that many of the demands were “reasonable” and open to negotiation. “Yes, I think⁢ we learn some reasonable, some of us can negotiate, we can argue. Yes, ⁢I say ⁣that my demands make a ‌lot of sense, many that I think are normative. And we can discuss it well,” he said this weekend in Hambalang.

Specifically, Subianto expressed support for⁤ the formation of ⁣an independent investigation team to examine the case‌ of Affan‌ Kurniawan,⁤ deeming the request⁢ “very⁤ reasonable”‌ and⁣ stating it “makes sense” and “can‌ be discussed.” He added, “later ⁤we ⁣will see the rich ⁤shape How.”

However, Subianto indicated that the demand for the withdrawal of the Indonesian National Armed ‍Forces (TNI) from civil security roles ‌was more‍ complex. He asserted that the ⁣TNI has a constitutional ‌duty to protect the public ‍from threats, including terrorism and‌ civil unrest. “So terrorism is a threat, burning threats, making riots threats to the people, the period‍ of pulling the TNI from civil security,in my opinion debatable,But‍ I will carry out ⁤the tasks‌ given by the Constitution to me,” he explained.
