Prabowo Meets Trump in US to Discuss Trade & Economic Cooperation

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia arrived at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C. On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:55 local time, beginning a visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties with the United States and negotiating trade agreements.

Upon disembarking from Garuda Indonesia-1, President Prabowo was greeted by Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo, Defense Attaché Marsma TNI E. Wisoko Aribowo, and Maintenance Group Commander Colonel Gary Charland, according to a statement from the Cabinet Secretariat.

Following the arrival ceremony, President Prabowo proceeded directly to his hotel in Washington D.C. A young girl presented President Prabowo with a bouquet of flowers whereas he was entering the hotel. The President was also greeted by members of the Indonesian diaspora and students, many of whom wore traditional Indonesian attire and carried small Indonesian flags, expressing their welcome.

“Selamat datang di Washington DC Bapak Presiden,” members of the diaspora and student community called out as President Prabowo entered the hotel, according to reports.

The primary purpose of President Prabowo’s visit is a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the discussions will center on bolstering the relationship between Indonesia and the United States, with a particular emphasis on strategic economic cooperation, including trade negotiations and agreements.

“This visit is part of President Prabowo’s active direct diplomacy to increase the economic chain and productivity of domestic industry,” Wijaya said.

Accompanying President Prabowo on the flight to the U.S. Were Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, as confirmed by the Cabinet Secretariat.
