Police Investigate Fire and Graffiti at Labor MP Sharon Hodgson’s Office
A police examination is underway following a fire and vandalism at the constituency office of Labour MP Sharon Hodgson in Washington and Gateshead South. Emergency services responded to the scene earlier today, with images showing fire damage and graffiti on the building.
The incident has prompted condemnation and a pledge of continued service from Hodgson, who has represented the constituency since 2005. While details remain limited due to the ongoing investigation, authorities are treating the event seriously, emphasizing that violence has no place in society. Hodgson’s office confirmed she will not be deterred from supporting her constituents and advised them to continue contacting her via email.
Hodgson, who also serves as vice chair of labour Friends of Israel, won her seat in the 2019 General Election. The motivation behind the attack is currently unknown, and police are appealing for information.
“We will not be commenting or speculating while there is an ongoing police investigation, what we are clear on is there is no place for this kind of violence in our society,” a statement from Hodgson’s office read. “Sharon will not be deterred and will continue to support her constituents in Washington and gateshead South as she does day in, day out. Constituents should get in touch with their issues by emailing in the usual way.”
