Tusk Accuses Kaczyński of Hypocrisy on Immigration Ahead of PiS Rally
WARSAW, Poland – Donald Tusk sharply criticized Jarosław Kaczyński on Friday, accusing teh Law and Justice (PiS) leader of bringing a record number of migrants to poland while concurrently calling for protests against immigration. The remarks came as PiS prepares to hold a rally in Warsaw’s Castle Square today at 2 PM, protesting illegal immigration and the Mercosur agreement.
Tusk’s statement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), read: “Only Jarosław Kaczyński can bring a record number of migrants to Poland and then call for a protest against migration.” This follows a report by the Supreme Audit Office revealing that the PiS government issued 6.5 million visas between 2018 and 2022 – exceeding the numbers issued by Spain and Germany during the same period. Data cited in the report indicates over 366,000 of those visas were granted to citizens of Muslim and African countries, with concerns raised about a lack of oversight by the Ministry of foreign Affairs regarding entry documentation.
Kaczyński responded to Tusk’s criticism, stating, “Donald Tusk is more and more afraid. it’s understandable: he lost on June 1, and now another plan is falling apart… We will stop the migration Pact and remove this harmful government from power. There is only one condition: we must be together – just like we were on June 1.”
PiS officials have framed today’s rally as a preventative measure against threats facing Western Europe. Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the PiS parliamentary club, stated the rally aims to prevent those threats from reaching Poland. The party also plans to collect signatures for a citizens’ initiative to hold a referendum on rejecting the EU Migration Pact. Rafał Bochenek, a PiS spokesman, announced that several speakers associated with the party, including Kaczyński, are scheduled to address the demonstration, with expectations of a turnout “of several thousand people.”
