Gmail Users Targeted in Storage Space Scam
A new phishing scam is targeting Gmail users with the deceptive promise of extra storage. The fraudulent emails falsely claim your Google Drive is full, attempting to steal personal information.
The Phishing Threat
Users with Gmail accounts also have access to Google Drive for file storage. The misleading email alerts recipients that their storage limit has been reached. The bogus email also offers 50 GB of extra storage for a yearly fee of 2.99 euros. It threatens the deletion of files from Google Drive if you don’t respond.
The email contains a ‘Receive 50 GB’ button. Clicking this link is dangerous, as criminals are using it to steal your personal information. The email appears to be from quoctrung928@gmail.com, which is not an official Google address.
Protecting Yourself
Always verify the sender’s address before interacting with an email. According to the Statista, the number of phishing attacks worldwide is constantly increasing. It’s vital to stay vigilant.
How the Scam Works
The scammers attempt to trick you into handing over personal data. They take advantage of the fear of losing stored files. A quick review of the sender can help prevent this type of scam.
