Pilots‘ Late Push Not Enough in 3-2 Setback Against mid-America Christian
SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSU Shreveport women’s soccer team battled back from an early deficit but ultimately fell short in a 3-2 loss to Mid-America christian on Saturday afternoon at The Swamp. Despite two second-half goals,the Pilots (1-4) were unable to overcome a speedy start by the Evangels.
The loss marks the fourth of the season for LSUS, as they continue a challenging stretch of games early in the fall campaign. The Pilots are striving to build momentum within the RRAC conference and this non-conference matchup provided a valuable opportunity to test their resilience against a competitive opponent. The team will look to rebound next Saturday when they host Cumberland (Tenn.) at The Swamp.Mid-America Christian jumped ahead with two goals in the opening minutes. Madison Chavez scored in the 5th minute, assisted by Brae Baker, and Maria Scopino followed up in the 7th minute with a goal set up by Olivia houlston. LSU Shreveport responded in the 18th minute when Lina Regadane finished a pass from Halee Hernandez, narrowing the gap to 2-1.
The Evangels extended their led in the 37th minute on a goal by Gladis Avalos. Though, the Pilots refused to concede, and Jade Derks scored in the 68th minute, assisted by Martina Bonilla, to bring the score to 3-2. Despite generating several chances in the closing stages, LSUS was unable to find the equalizer.
LSUS goalkeeper Elena Lopez played the entire 90 minutes, recording three saves. alba vigo finished with six saves for Mid-America Christian.
LSU Shreveport will continue its homestand on Saturday, September 13, with an 11 a.m. kickoff against Cumberland (Tenn.) at the Swamp.
