Pianist Won Jae-yeon, under the Onyx label managed by Lee Jae-yeon, has released a new album titled “Domenico & Alessandro Scarlatti.” This release is a direct result of a triumphant crowdfunding campaign, reflecting strong support from fans.
Won Jae-yeon, a recognized artist on the European music scene since his success at the 61st Busoni International Competition, has garnered critical acclaim, including being described as having a “heavenly sound” by Süddeutsche zeitung and receiving praise from Thai Son pianist. He is often likened to a modern interpreter of Bach to Bartók. Currently, Won Jae-yeon serves as an artistic director in Europe, is a Steinway artist, and is affiliated with the Arco ensemble.
The album, featuring 26 pieces by Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti, showcases Won Jae-yeon’s detailed interpretations and musical insights. It was officially launched worldwide on June 27 and is available on major streaming platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music. Physical CD copies can be purchased through prominent Korean online bookstores, including YES24 and Aladdin. The recording took place at the renowned Teldex Studio in Germany, with production by Martin Sauer, known for his collaborations with numerous esteemed artists, including the Berlin Philharmonic.
The crowdfunding initiative, which spanned three weeks, surpassed its funding goal thanks to contributions from both domestic and international supporters. The campaign offered various rewards, including CDs, handwritten messages, recital invitations, and acknowledgments in the album’s leaflet, which where met with excited responses.
A commemorative concert celebrating the album’s release is scheduled for October 19 at 2 PM in the IBK Chamber hall. The performance will feature selections from the album and offer audiences a closer connection to the music.
Reflecting on the project, Won Jae-yeon stated, “This album is not a record of my own achievements, but rather a testament to the collective effort of those who love music.”
