Phoenix Suns Waive Two-Way Players Koby Brea and CJ Huntley
The Phoenix Suns parted ways with two-way guard Koby Brea and forward CJ Huntley on Monday, cutting two players who spent time developing in the G League during their rookie seasons.
Two Contrasting G League Profiles Shape the Phoenix Roster Decisions
Koby Brea entered the organization as the 41st overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Kentucky and Dayton, bringing a reputation as a lethal perimeter threat. During his rookie campaign, Brea appeared in 12 games for the Phoenix Suns, averaging 3.8 points in just 7.0 minutes per contest while shooting 43.3% from beyond the arc. At the same time, his heavy deployment with the Valley Suns in the G League showcased a much larger volume. Arizona Sports noted slightly different G League totals for Brea across 25 games, where he logged 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 33.4 minutes per night while shooting 38% overall and 36% from deep. Despite that shooting touch, backcourt depth in Phoenix limited his regular NBA floor time.
CJ Huntley presented a vastly different physical and statistical profile. Standing 6-foot-11 out of Appalachian State, Huntley played in four games for the Suns last season, averaging 3.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists across 10 minutes per game, as detailed by Arizona Sports. John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports was the first to report Huntley’s release. Across 29 regular-season G League games with the Valley Suns, Huntley put up 16.0 points on 61.3% shooting, alongside 8.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.2 blocks.

Phoenix Suns Seek Frontcourt Depth After Player Releases
The simultaneous release of Brea and Huntley leaves the Phoenix Suns with one open spot among their three available two-way contract slots. Pat Spencer currently occupies one of those spots. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that the franchise is actively seeking frontcourt depth following center Mark Williams undergoing surgery in August to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic confirmed the official release of both players via social media. While Duop Reath remains on an Exhibit 10 contract with the team, speculation persists that the front office may convert Reath’s deal into the newly opened two-way slot, though that move remains unconfirmed.
