Phish to Reach 100th Madison Square Garden Show During New Year Run
“There’s an electricity in the air,” a longtime Garden employee says in a new video celebrating Phish and Madison Square Garden, as spinmagazine.com reported. After 32 years, 99 shows, and 17 New Year’s Eves at the venue, Phish is set to cross the 100-show threshold during its upcoming four-night New Year’s run in New York City, culminating in a milestone performance on January 2.
Madison Square Garden Staff Witness 32 Years of Phish History
The upcoming run begins on December 30, marking almost exactly 32 years since the band first played at the arena on December 30, 1994. spinmagazine.com highlighted that the newly released video shifts focus away from the band itself to honor the venue employees who have greeted fans, poured drinks, and sold merchandise for decades. One staff member stated in the footage that they have worked at the Garden for 33 years and eight months, while another noted approaching 29 years on the job. A member of the food and beverage staff shared that they have attended every single Phish show at the venue since the band’s 1994 debut.
Employees in the video described the unique community surrounding the concerts. One staffer observed an audience that acts almost like a participating part of the show through interactions and high fives, while another worker recalled first seeing the band live back in 1989. A younger staff member featured in the project noted being dazzled by a show-opening rendition of “Carini” during his first-ever Phish concert last December.
Ticket Sales Open October 16 for New Year's Run
Demand for the landmark 100th show remains high following residencies like the 2017 Baker’s Dozen, which spanned 13 consecutive nights and 237 unique songs without a single repeat. More recently, the band performed a five-night summer run featuring strict chronological set lists pulling exclusively from early- and mid-1990s repertoires.

Tickets for the upcoming New Year’s run are currently available through a ticket request period running until noon Eastern Time on October 12. General public ticket sales are scheduled to open on October 16 at noon Eastern Time. Prior to the Madison Square Garden milestone, Phish’s schedule includes performances in Virginia, Florida, and Alabama. Following the New York run, the band will host its 10th annual Riviera Maya destination event from January 27 to 30 at Moon Palace Cancún in Mexico, featuring eight sets of music alongside late-night DJ performances by James Murphy and Questlove, plus comedy acts from Fred Armisen, Rory Scovel, Beth Stelling, Ali Macofsky, and Phil Hanley.
