FORT LAUDERDALE, FL & PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Union secured the Supporters’ Shield on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over New York City FC, while Inter Miami celebrated a dominant win and honored departing midfielder Sergio Busquets.
The Union’s win, secured by a decisive goal from Mikael Uhre, marks their second Supporters’ Shield title, following their win in 2020, and guarantees them home-field advantage in the upcoming MLS Playoffs. They will begin their postseason run against the winner of the Wild Card Round.
Meanwhile, the spotlight shone on Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium, where they defeated the New England Revolution 4-1. Jordi Alba and Tadeo Allende each scored twice, while Lionel Messi, partnered in attack with Luis Suarez, delivered three assists despite not finding the back of the net himself.
The match provided a fitting backdrop for a pre-game tribute to Sergio Busquets, who will retire at the end of the season after a decorated career with Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
