Petr Nárožný Honored With Lifetime Achievement Thalia Award

Petr Nárožný Honored With Lifetime Achievement Thalia Award

October 8, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Actor Petr Nárožný received the Thalia Award for lifetime achievement at the National Theatre on Saturday, delivering an emotional acceptance speech that moved the packed auditorium to a standing ovation, zpravy.tiscali.cz reported. While the 88-year-old actor’s award had been announced publicly since mid-September alongside other laureates including Zdena Herfortová and Jaroslava Kretschmerová, the unscripted nature of his remarks became the emotional center of the evening’s proceedings.

An Unscripted Retrospective at the National Theatre

Taking the stage at the 33rd annual Thalia Awards ceremony, Nárožný reflected on his extensive career spanning decades of Czech film, television, and theatre. According to zpravy.tiscali.cz, the actor offered personal expressions of gratitude, thanking his mother for his existence and his wife, Ivanka, for enduring his pre-premiere moods for more than 50 years. He also acknowledged director Ladislav Smoček, the founder of the Činoherní klub.

Novinky reported that Nárožný lightheartedly suggested the Thalia Award might serve as a symbolic signal that an artist should step away from public performance. The actor noted that he has not performed in a traditional theatre production in three years due to ongoing physical injuries. Blesk pro ženy and zpravy.tiscali.cz documented that the actor’s mobility challenges stem from a series of physical setbacks, including a fall in Třeboň in September that resulted in a fractured shoulder, following a previous femur fracture sustained while touring in Zlín.

Transition from Architecture to the Stage

Nárožný’s path to the theatre industry followed an unconventional trajectory. Having studied at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, he qualified as an engineer in 1968 before entering the entertainment sector as a host for the musical group Rangers. In 1973, Miroslav Šimek invited him to join the Semafor theatre alongside Luděk Sobota, coinciding with his film debut as the racer Volejník in the comedy Jáchyme, hoď ho do stroje!

By 1980, Nárožný had accumulated roughly forty film credits, including appearances in Marečku, podejte mi pero! and Což takhle dát si špenát. A definitive career pivot occurred in February 1980 when director Ladislav Smoček cast him in the title role of The Captain of Köpenick at the Činoherní klub. This transition established him as a character actor, leading to prominent stage roles such as Harpagon in The Miser. He maintained a four-decade tenure at the theatre until his final performance there in 2022, alongside providing voice work for animated children’s television programs.

Ceremonial Highlights and Red Carpet Visibility

The 33rd Thalia Awards ceremony encompassed multiple disciplines, recognizing performances across opera, ballet, musical theatre, and alternative productions. Super.cz highlighted the evening’s fashion and notable attendee transformations, including actress Lucie Polišenská, who wore a black gown following a 24-kilogram weight loss. Additional honorees and participants included director Daniela Špinar, actress Erika Stárková, and Bára Munzarová, who provided nomination commentary for the event.

Novinky noted that several artists utilized the platform to address broader cultural concerns. Rostislav Novák Jr. spoke on contemporary challenges facing independent art, while Stanislav Majer dedicated a portion of his acceptance speech for his role in Amadoka to addressing the conflict in Ukraine. Magdalena Kožená and Štefan Margita secured awards in the opera and musical categories, while Martin Myšička presided over the evening as master of ceremonies.

Continued Public Engagement Through Talks

Despite his departure from traditional theatrical staging, Nárožný continues to maintain a direct connection with audiences through public discussion events. As reported by zpravy.tiscali.cz, the actor conducts conversational gatherings for fans, stating that these appearances provide him with a sustained sense of connection to the stage.
