Peru Road Closures: Weather, Landslides & Travel Updates

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Peruvian authorities are advising travelers to exercise caution as heavy rainfall and landslides disrupt transportation networks across the country. Multiple roadways are currently blocked, impacting both domestic and international travel, according to reports from La República and ATV.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) issued recommendations urging travelers to adopt preventative measures, though specific details of those measures were not immediately available. The advisory comes as the government warns of risks to infrastructure due to the intense rainfall, Gestión reported.

Bus services to various destinations have been suspended due to the road closures, stranding passengers and disrupting supply chains. The extent of the disruption is still being assessed, but officials indicate that several key routes are impassable.

On February 3, 2026, Mincetur highlighted Peru’s growing position as a commercial power in South America, according to the Peruvian News Agency Andina. This announcement contrasts with the current challenges posed by the weather-related infrastructure issues.

In August 2025, Mincetur participated in the launch of “Caminos Andinos” in Colombia, a regional initiative aimed at promoting integrated tourism routes between Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Viceministra de Turismo Aracelly Laca Ramos emphasized the initiative’s potential to showcase Peru’s diversity and benefit local communities. The current disruptions raise questions about the immediate feasibility of these regional tourism plans.

The agencyandina Instagram account posted on February 6, 2026, reinforcing Peru’s positioning as a top destination, but did not address the current travel disruptions.
