Pennsylvania Nurses and Healthcare Workers Appeal to Fetterman on Healthcare Costs
HARRISBURG, PA – hundreds of nurses and healthcare workers marched to Senator John Fetterman’s Harrisburg office Friday, delivering a letter signed by hundreds of caregivers urging him to protect affordable healthcare for nearly half a million Pennsylvanians. The exhibition focused on the need to extend premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) which are set to expire, potentially leading to meaningful insurance premium increases or loss of coverage for many residents.
These tax credits, accessed through Pennsylvania’s health insurance marketplace, Pennie, currently help approximately 480,000 Pennsylvanians afford health insurance.Without an extension, advocates warn that hundreds of thousands could face substantial premium hikes or be forced to drop coverage altogether. The healthcare workers emphasized the critical role affordable insurance plays in public health and access to care.
The group presented Senator Fetterman’s office with a giant letter outlining their concerns and requesting his support in ensuring the continuation of these vital financial assistance programs. They highlighted the potential impact on patients and the healthcare system if coverage is disrupted.
