Penn state Running Back nicholas Singleton Revives Career with Breakout performance Against Indiana
STATE COLLEGE, PA – Penn State running back Nicholas Singleton appears to have rediscovered his form, culminating in a dominant performance against Indiana and a return to consistent production. After a period of struggling to replicate his early success, Singleton broke through in the fourth quarter against the Hoosiers, igniting a spark that has revitalized both his individual game and the Nittany Lions’ offense.
Trailing 20-10 at the start of the fourth quarter, Singleton exploded for a long run, reaching the 1-yard line before being tackled. This play, described by teammate Ethan Grunkemeyer as a moment where “you coudl just feel the energy,” marked a turning point. Singleton capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown, his second of the game and the 41st of his career, placing him second on Penn State’s all-time rushing touchdowns list behind Saquon Barkley (43).
Teammates noted a visible shift in Singleton’s play. “nick is an amazing football player and an amazing person,” said wide receiver Devonte Ross. “He’s always had [skill] so I think the last couple of weeks he’s been just showing what he can do.” Khalil Dinkins, Penn State’s tight end, stated Singleton “flipped a switch.”
Singleton continued to impress, adding a 19-yard screen pass for a go-ahead touchdown, marking the third three-touchdown game of his career. He finished the Indiana game with a season-best 93 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. The following week against Michigan State,he rushed for 56 yards, achieving consecutive games over 50 rushing yards for the first time since Weeks 2 and 3.
Singleton attributes his resurgence to focused effort. “Just getting back to the drawing board. Taking it one day at a time,” he said. “Just [trying to] get better every day.”
