Penn Women’s Cross country Kicks Off Season with Victory at Princeton
PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s cross country team launched its 2025 campaign with a dominant performance at the new Jersey Jam on September 5,2025,securing a decisive win at Princeton University. The Quakers demonstrated early-season strength, foreshadowing a competitive fall for the program.
This season-opening triumph sets a positive tone for Penn’s cross country schedule, signaling the team’s readiness to contend within the Ivy League. The Quakers will look to build on this momentum as thay navigate a challenging slate of upcoming races, ultimately aiming for a strong showing at the Ivy League Championships. Next, the team heads to Haverford, pa. to compete at the Main Line Invitational on Sept. 19.
Lara Cota led the charge for Penn, finishing second in the women’s 4.1k race with a time of 14:07.4. Gabby Jones closely followed, securing fourth place in 14:09.1, while Izzy Rodriguez rounded out the top five with a time of 14:10.6. Mio Edwards finished ninth at 14:13.3 and Kyra Compton placed twelfth, clocking in at 14:20.7.
On the men’s side, Esfan Daya paced the Quakers, finishing 18th overall with a time of 17:33.8 in the 5.8k race. Shamus Larnard, Sahil Dodda, and Liam Going all crossed the finish line together in 17:33.9, securing 19th, 20th, and 21st place respectively. Kofi Fordjour completed the scoring for Penn,finishing 22nd in 17:34.0.
