‘Peaky Blinders’ universe expands: Sequel Series Ordered at Netflix and BBC
Los Angeles, CA – The world of the Shelby family will continue with a new “Peaky Blinders” series, greenlit for two seasons by Netflix and the BBC.The sequel, from creator and writer Steven Knight, is set in 1953 Birmingham and will follow a new generation of the Shelby clan as they navigate the city’s post-war reconstruction.
The continuation of the critically acclaimed series arrives alongside a forthcoming feature film, “The Immortal Man,” slated for release in early 2026. While the original ”Peaky Blinders” concluded in 2022 after six seasons, the enduring popularity of the show has fueled demand for further installments, now realized through both a film and this new series. Cillian Murphy, who starred as Tommy Shelby in the original series, will serve as an executive producer on the sequel.
Set against the backdrop of Birmingham rebuilding after extensive bombing during World War II,the new series will center on the fierce competition to control the city’s enterprising reconstruction project.According to the plot description, the era presents “unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”
Production will be handled by Kudos (“SAS Rogue Heroes,” “House of Guinness”) and Garrison Drama (“peaky Blinders” Seasons 1-6 and the upcoming film). Filming is scheduled to take place in Birmingham at Digbeth Loc. Studios.
“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the ‘Peaky Blinders’ story,” Knight stated. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”
Each of the two new seasons will consist of six 60-minute episodes. Executive producers also include Karen Wilson and Martin Haines for Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook for Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan and Danielle Scott Haughton for the BBC, and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley for Netflix.
“The Immortal Man” film, directed by Tom Harper (“This Is England ’86”), will star Murphy alongside Stephen Graham, rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan.
