Patricia Maussion Replaces Philippe Bolo as Angers-Segré MP | France News
Maine-et-Loire Deputy to Resign Mayoral Post, Assume National Assembly Seat
Patricia Maussion, recently elected mayor of Loiré, will relinquish her mayoral duties to take a seat in the French National Assembly, following the decision of her predecessor, Philippe Bolo, to prioritize his newly won mayorship of Avrillé. The move resolves a period of uncertainty following municipal elections in Maine-et-Loire.
Bolo, who had previously announced he would favor the mayoral position if elected in Avrillé due to legal restrictions on holding multiple mandates, formally notified the Assembly of his intention to resign on April 27th. This paves the way for Maussion, his designated substitute, to join the national legislature representing the 7th constituency of Maine-et-Loire, encompassing the cantons of Angers Nord, Angers Nord-Ouest, Candé, Le Lion-d’Angers, Le Louroux-Béconnais, Pouancé, and Segré.
The transition was confirmed in a joint statement from the Bolo-Maussion team. “With the support of her municipal council, she has decided to pass the function of mayor to one of her deputies in order to be able to sit in the National Assembly,” the statement read. Maussion herself expressed gratitude to Bolo for his confidence, stating, “I accept this commitment and fully understand the responsibility entrusted to me. I will put my energy at the service of the inhabitants of our territory.”
Maussion brings a substantial background in regional politics to the National Assembly. She currently serves as a regional councilor for the Pays de la Loire region (Union centriste), president of the P.E.T.R. Of Anjou Bleu, and has been a municipal councilor and deputy mayor of Loiré since 2001. She also holds a position on the Chamber of Agriculture of the Pays de la Loire.
Bolo emphasized Maussion’s extensive experience as justification for his choice of successor, stating that her “commitment for many years to the service of the territory” would ensure a continuation of the work undertaken in the constituency. He highlighted her role as “an elected official on the ground” and her dedication to representing the interests of local residents.
The process of formalizing Maussion’s transition to the National Assembly is expected to take approximately one month, following Bolo’s official resignation. The implications of this shift for the municipality of Loiré remain to be seen, as Maussion prepares to appoint a deputy mayor to assume her former responsibilities.
