Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reinforce security and defense commitments
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reinforced their bilateral security and defense commitments on the sidelines of the R-4 Ministerial Meeting in Istanbul, where top diplomats addressed regional stability against a backdrop of ongoing security pressures. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated Pakistan’s full backing for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
Islamabad and Riyadh Focus on Defense Mechanisms
The discussions in Istanbul focused heavily on existing institutional defense mechanisms linking Islamabad and Riyadh. Both foreign ministers highlighted the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Defense Alliance as central pillars of their bilateral relationship. The two officials emphasized their shared dedication to regional peace, security, and stability through continuous diplomatic consultations.
The diplomatic engagement in Istanbul follows a series of high-level contacts between the two nations aimed at solidifying institutional cooperation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif previously reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance that the country stands shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its territorial integrity. That meeting, held with newly appointed Saudi Ambassador Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy in Islamabad, included explicit condemnation of recent Houthi attacks against the Kingdom that resulted in civilian casualties and affected Pakistani nationals.
Punjab Governor Discusses Expanding Economic Ties
Beyond military and defense frameworks, bilateral channels have seen active domestic engagement across Pakistan. Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan hosted the Saudi Ambassador and prominent industrialist Nawab Shehzad Ali Khan at Governor House Lahore to discuss the expansion of economic ties. That meeting showed that bilateral relations extend beyond diplomacy into deep religious, cultural, and economic connections.
Discussions in Lahore identified vast opportunities for cooperation across trade, investment, education, and industry. Nawab Shehzad Ali Khan noted that Pakistani business and industrial circles are eager to increase commercial engagement with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the historical esteem in which the Pakistani public holds the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The Lahore talks reinforced the broader institutional trajectory set by federal leaders in Islamabad and Istanbul.

Governments Commit to Regular High-Level Consultations
At the federal level, Deputy Prime Minister Dar and Ambassador Albugamy exchanged formal greetings from their respective leaderships, conveying messages from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Both governments have committed to maintaining regular, high-level consultations to implement ongoing strategic agreements.
