Houthis Threaten Saudi Arabia with Retaliatory Strikes on Riyadh
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have threatened a severe and painful
military response against Riyadh if the Saudi-led coalition proceeds with planned strikes on Sanaa. The warning, issued by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree on October 13, follows a public declaration by the coalition regarding an impending operation in the Yemeni capital.
The coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, announced its intention to target a specific area in Sanaa, which is currently under Houthi control. General Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the coalition, stated on social media that they would in the near future
issue a warning for civilians to evacuate the site to facilitate what he described as a special operation. The specific nature and objectives of this planned military action have not been disclosed.
Threatened Targets in Saudi Arabia
In response to the coalition’s announcement, Houthi forces expanded their list of potential retaliatory targets. Beyond the threat to strike the Saudi capital, the group explicitly warned that they would target the airport in Riyadh, a refinery in the city, and the headquarters of the state-owned oil company Aramco located in Dammam. The Houthi military spokesperson urged citizens to immediately abandon and move away
from these designated locations, citing the risk of retaliatory strikes if the coalition proceeds with its bombardment of Sanaa.
Security Warnings and Travel Advisories
The situation remains volatile, as both sides have publicly signaled their intent to carry out military operations. While the coalition prepares to move against Sanaa, the Houthi leadership maintains that any such strike will be met with a direct response in the heart of Saudi Arabia.
