Pablo Quirno Meets Stefano Domenicali in Singapore to Discuss Argentine Grand Prix Return
Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno met privately with Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend to formally request a Grand Prix return for Argentina. Quirno attended the event following a formal invitation from Singapore’s Minister for Trade Grace Fu and Minister for Energy Tan See Len.
The diplomatic push follows recent actions by President Javier Milei. Milei invited international motorsport authorities to dream of a return during an August address at the American Congress of the International Automobile Federation in Buenos Aires, stating an explicit desire to host the competition and feature driver Franco Colapinto on home soil.
Colapinto participates in the Formula 1 grid currently with Alpine, following his earlier stint with Williams. During the Singapore weekend, Colapinto competed in the Sprint event before experiencing a technical failure, and qualified 15th for the main Grand Prix following a grid penalty assessed to George Russell.
Calendar logistics present immediate hurdles for the 2027 season, as the official schedule is already set. However, opportunities remain viable if prior venue cancellations occur, or through contract expirations for existing circuits ahead of the 2028 racing calendar.
Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez Upgrades
Buenos Aires is executing track renovations at the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez to secure technical homologation from the International Automobile Federation. Initial engineering plans targeted a 4.3-kilometer layout with 14 corners designed to accommodate a MotoGP return slated for April 2027.
City officials expanded the infrastructure capital expenditures to satisfy the structural demands of Formula 1 monoposts. The revised circuit specifications expand the track to 4.87 kilometers across 15 corners, managed under the design of a German engineering studio.
