Steelers Learn Asking Price for Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Rumors
The Arizona Cardinals have indicated that wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. will be traded, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, alongside other receiver-needy teams around the league, have learned the required trade asking price. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, any interested franchise pursuing a blockbuster deal for the former No. 4 pick must offer a second-round draft pick and possibly an additional Day 2-3 selection, or an additional mid-round pick.
Saturday morning reports revealed that the Cardinals received inquiries into Harrison, with league sources indicating that Arizona wanted a second-round pick and more to consider parting ways with the receiver. While the Houston Texans emerged as heavy favorites to land Harrison and offered a 2028 second-round draft pick, the Cardinals pushed instead for a 2027 second-round selection from a loaded NFL Draft class. ESPN’s Adam Schefter subsequently reported on social media that the Cardinals were finalizing a trade deal and informed Harrison he would be inactive for Sunday’s game against Detroit as trade details were finalized. Ian Rapoport added that while a trade was not fully finalized as of Saturday morning, the receiver was expected to be moved.
Cardinals Seek High Draft Compensation for Harrison
Before the trade progression unfolded, Pelissero outlined the baseline compensation, writing: Other teams that have spoken to the Cardinals say Arizona would want a second-round draft pick and more—perhaps an additional mid-round pick—to consider dealing Harrison.
The high valuation meant acquiring the wideout before the 2026 NFL trade deadline would not come cheaply. Schefter noted the impending move on social media, posting: Breaking: the Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a deal to trade WR Marvin Harrison, sources tell me and Ian Rapoport,
and adding, The team informed Harrison this morning that he will be inactive for Sunday’s game vs. Detroit as details of the trade are finalized.
Rapoport noted regarding the status of the negotiations: No trade is finalized as of now. But he’s expected to be traded.
Steelers Seek Receivers After Pittman Foot Injury
The trade buzz carries heavy significance for Pittsburgh due to injuries plaguing their wide receiver room. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox previously named the Steelers one of the top two ideal landing spots for Harrison. The team faces a new hole at the WR2 position following a foot injury to Michael Pittman Jr., who is set to miss a few weeks and could potentially land on injured reserve. The Steelers have maintained an aggressive approach on the receiver market, having added Mike Williams at the 2024 trade deadline and acquiring Pittman and D.K. Metcalf in past offseasons. Without an external addition, Pittsburgh faces moving forward with Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard as starters opposite Metcalf. Harrison posted 62 catches, 885 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns as a rookie in 2024, though he took a backseat to Michael Wilson and tight end Trey McBride in Arizona starting in 2025.
