According to the documentary, Osbourne feared he would be left permanently incapacitated. ”I was just… fed up with life,” he says in the film. “I thought, ‘What the f* am I doing?’ I was just… paralyzed.” He reportedly confided in his wife,Sharon Osbourne,about his suicidal ideation.
The surgery was a follow-up to a fall in 2019 that initially required surgery. Despite the initial procedure, Osbourne continued to experience debilitating pain, leading to the 2021 operation. Following the second surgery, his condition worsened, prompting the dark thoughts documented in the film.
Despite his despair, Osbourne persevered, returning to the recording studio to complete his 13th and final solo album, Patient Number 9, in 2022. He also made a surprise performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2024.
“It’s my last hurrah, so it’s gonna be pretty emotional for me up ther,” Osbourne said in the documentary, reflecting on his final performance in Birmingham, England. “I just hope I don’t think of Sharon when I’m up there. Because then the fing tears will start coming. We’ve done a lot of miles together, me and my old girl.This is it. This is the last thing. And I’ve accepted it, you know.”
