São Paulo Midfielder Oscar Hospitalized Following Cardiac Incident
Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar is currently hospitalized and undergoing observation after experiencing a cardiac issue during training with São Paulo on Tuesday. the 34-year-old became unwell while on an exercise bike at the club’s training center and was briefly unconscious, according to reports.
the incident has prompted Oscar to consider retirement, casting doubt on his future with the Brazilian club he rejoined in December 2024 after eight years playing in China. He signed a three-year deal with São Paulo, managed by Hernan Crespo, that was set to run until 2027.
São Paulo released a statement confirming Oscar “presented an incident with cardiological changes,” and received immediate attention from club medical staff and a team from the Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were present at the training ground.The club added that Oscar is in stable condition and further tests are being conducted to determine a diagnosis.
Brazilian publication Globo reported Oscar was unconscious for approximately two minutes before receiving medical assistance. The severity of the incident raises concerns about the long-term health of the player and the potential end of his professional career. Oscar began his career with São Paulo before moving to Europe in 2012, where he spent five years with Chelsea, winning the Premier League and Europa League. He also earned 47 caps for the Brazilian national team.
