The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has launched its latest scholarship season, awarding stipends to 40 students at leading technical universities across Russia. Students from Saint Petersburg State Maritime Technical University, Severny (Arctic) Federal University’s branch in Severodvinsk, Kaliningrad State Technical University, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseev, and Sevastopol State University will receive the corporate scholarships.

Applications for the USC scholarships were accepted in February. The scholarships are awarded annually on a competitive basis to senior undergraduate students demonstrating strong academic performance, research contributions, successful completion of internships at USC Group companies, and active participation in the corporation’s ambassador program.

“The corporation actively supports talented and ambitious students who have shown a desire and ability to become professional shipbuilders,” said Yulia Oganezova, head of USC’s personnel management department. “These students will become the driving force behind the development of the domestic shipbuilding industry. For university students, the USC scholarship is not only significant financial support, but also a sign of recognition and trust from the corporation in promising young specialists who are already demonstrating their high scientific and professional potential.”

The USC ambassador program requires students to actively promote the corporation’s values among young people, popularize shipbuilding professions, and assist in attracting new talent to USC Group companies. These student ambassadors serve as examples of academic success, responsibility, and engagement within the corporation, according to USC.

The USC, a state-owned shipbuilding holding, consolidates approximately 80% of all shipbuilding projects in Russia, uniting leading shipbuilding, ship repair enterprises, and design bureaus, according to information from tadviser.ru. The corporation builds both naval vessels fulfilling state defense orders and modern civilian ships and marine equipment, as reported by aoosk.ru. In 2023, USC’s revenue grew to 400 billion rubles.

Recent developments at USC include plans to exit the capital of the Khingisepsky Plant in 2026, and a record construction of 40 ships in 2025. The corporation also acquired a 14.1% stake in the Zvezda plant and purchased the Khingisepsky Machine-Building Plant in 2025. In 2024, USC approved a digitalization strategy called “Shipbuilding 4.0” and gained ownership of 49.99% of the Nevsky Shipyard through a court decision, alongside the incorporation of the Marine Instrumentation Corporation. The Feodosia shipbuilding plant was transferred to USC by Rostec in 2022, valued at 0.5 billion rubles.

According to Vedomosti, the Russian Ministry of Transport recently proposed easing regulations concerning aging vessels.
